Geeking out at Worldcup 2010

Worldcup Apps

You may have heard about this thing called world cup which begins this week. What’s the web angle to my inclusion of this topic you ask?

Here you go: Top apps for my old, tired and yesterday’s news iPhone. I’ve had the ESPN app for the better part of the year. Yes, i’ve been counting down for that long!

Mashable also has some tips for Twitter.

Something that will not work on your iPad is this calendar on the marca.com due to it’s flashy goodness. (It’s also in Spanish.) Pretty cool interface for a calendar. But there are so many of these, I feel a bit saturated.

Lets not stop there. A few more things from around the interwebs at the nexus of geekhood and futball…

Apparently, ESPN will be covering worldcup in 3D. They’re online coverage doesn’t seem to have anything extra geeky to rave about.

Google will do it’s thing and bring it all together in a plane and uninteresting list. They do have an interesting time line though.

European coverage will obviously be more intense. BBC Gaurdian… the list is too long.

Mobile technology has advanced just a tad bit since last worldcup so there will be much more non-tv coverage.

Live coverage on ESPN3.com is going to be my pick from the streaming methods available. Except for when I’m actually in

the stadium

or watching it locally or with a few friends around the neighborhood.

Has everyone gone worldcup mad?
Yes.
Yes they have. Case in point, Soccer Ice Ball Maker. Portable enough for me to take them along to South Africa.

Ok. So there is enough hype and plenty to geek out about it. Lets start watching the games.

One more thing… There is no way you haven’t seen this ad already. But you should just watch it again. It’s just too good.

Still need more? Here is far better collection of world cup stuff put together by Inspired Mag. Enjoy.
