Step-by-Step: Picasso at the Lapin Agile Poster

To get my creative juices flowing, I do some work completely unrelated to the day job. It often helps to work with other creative types because they tend to collaborate better. The following shows the general steps that went into a poster for Keegan Theatre.

References: The play is about these 2 very famous faces. So the illustration of their combined portrait seems like the right direction.

Illustration Detail: Illustrating the faces took a long time. The idea was to have each half-face be done in style referencing the opposite face. (trust me, it makes some sense if you know the story.)
So letter forms of mathematical equations show Picasoo’s face and Einstein’s face is more of a paining. It’s all done in illustrator and not much more complex then gradient mesh that is highlighted here. I wish i had spent alot more time on this, it was a really nice concept that could have been so much more.

Illustration References: Some additional references to get the color palette and texture.

Finished Rendering: The piece is completed but it needs some framing before we can give it the headline and copy treatment.

Finshed, sorta! The poster is received well, but I thought it could have been much more developed. Simply ran out of time and have to admit: the illustration skills could be improved:-)
