Step-by-Step: Cuckoos Nest Poster
To get my creative juices flowing, I do some work completely unrelated to the day job. It often helps to work with other creative types because they tend to collaborate better. The following shows the general steps that went into a poster for Keegan Theatre.
Green Screen: Typical quick photo shoot against a green backdrop.
Isolated: Isolating the subject is easy with this green screen! But there is lots of green highlight, and I should have had better lighting.
Color Correction: Much better. Now it looks simpler. But it needs to blend into the white better… something a little more insane asylumie!
Higher Contrast and Blending: More contrast and some blurring makes it more graphic looking and it will blend with other graphic elements in the poster better. But its kinda too bland, needs emphasis on something?!
Focal Point: The ball does the trick. Having that harsh light in the original shot ends up being a nice happy accident. The fake shadow will make more sense with a doorway or something that suggests the moment of entry into the cuckoo house.
Layout: Now for some actual text and other element. It’s not very elaborate, but it should do the trick as a poster. The very large text in the direction of his eyes will grab attention.
